They're essentially the same, LED makes the monitor thinner and more energy efficient.
Pretty sure if you're getting an NEC its an IPS panel, they make really good stuff.

monitors labeled LCD often have CCFL backlighting while monitors labeled LED have LED backlighting.
there is not much of a difference in performance between the two. the led backlighting is more power efficient.
what is more important is what type of panel the monitor has.
8bit or 10 bit ips are best since they are very color accurate.
this includes s-ips, h-ips and p-ips. e-ips is only 6bit and is not included.
