hey i'm wondering if i should get an A10 6800k APU with an FM+ Mobo or should i just go with an Am3+ with an FX-8350

i was thinking of getting the FM2+ so i can upgrade to Kaveri or should i just go with the fx and a 7770. i mostly just want to play newer games on med-high settings

but i also want to be able to upgrade my CPU in the future without needing a new Mobo

For the ram its 8 GB of g.skill ripsaws clocked at 1866

More about : type amd cpu

Best solution

I'd go with the FX, currently has better performance and its difficult to tell what kind of performance kaveri will bring. If you get the FX you could save some money by getting an 8320 and a nice aircooler (e.g. Hyper 212 EVO) so you could overclock it for even more performance, similar to the 8350 but for less money. I'd say just get what's good for now as it's pretty pointless to rest your hopes on the kaveri being good for gaming as we just don't know.

Also they may move sockets even after Kaveri so you'll always have to change your mobo at some point. The FX will be good for a good few years as more cores is better for highly-threaded games, and games are going in that direction. Like here: http://www.corsair.com/blog/ps4-xbone-pcgaming/

I concur with jook. the APU are primarily designed around the GPU. in some situations the cpu will work, in others ... not so well.

but the thing to keep in mind is your going to cap with the 7770 @ 38fps anyway.

If thats your budget, you would be better off dropping down to the fx 6300/6350 and upping the video card.

so if i go with an 8320 what Mobo would be good for OC and also has a price around 100-150

ASrock if you ever plan on doing crossfire graphics, asus if not.

^^ I wasn't happy with my gigabyte board.

Damn that sucks, what was wrong? :(

I suggested the 990FX asus btw because it would be better for OC etc. than the one you suggested, but the M5A97 isn't a bad board by any means, have one myself (not LE though). :)

my 8120 would only go to 4.4 ghz, wouldn't stabilize even at 1.5v. It also wouldn't properly disable cpu throttling (c6 state), probably the reason it wouldn't stabilize.

Swapped for the asus sabertooth, same cpu, 4.7 ghz @ 1.344v. never throttles.
