Bought weak PSU, is this a compatible replacement?

Solution
For a system using a single AMD reference design Radeon HD 7950 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 30 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Your old PSU was right on the borderline but over time a PSU will lose some of its ability to deliver its full power rating.

I would recommend the Seasonic G Series SSR-550RM over the OCZ ZT 550W. The Seasonic has much better electrical performance.

Sounds like you're bumping into the overcurrent protection of your current power supply, and it's shutting off to save itself.

I agree with ko888 that we should take a look at what you're asking the power supply to run before passing judgment on whether your chosen replacement will be up to the task. No sense having the same problem twice.
