Hey everyone, after getting lucky at the TB ps4 giveaway I've decided to replace my upcoming 7yr old computer! I've come up with a build so far but since I haven't been in the know how for a while I wanted to get some solid advice before I set out to buy the components.

I'm not set on anything so suggest anything to substitute the parts. I was thinking of changing the case to the 400R/550D/Fractal design define R4 but any other suggestions?

Better quality psu and case.
Cheaper board, has all the functions you need.
Cheaper ram, performs the same.

If only ordering from Newegg and Amazon, it totals to ~991.
Unless you already have a HDD, I would drop the SSD for a 1tb HDD.

I have a 500Gb HDD that I'm bringing over from my current desktop. I also have a friend that works at WD so I can get their drives for a decent price so HDD isn't really that crucial atm. Would 550W really be enough? I'm most likely going to CF in the future :O

For future support, I would recommend a 850w PSU, go 8gb of ram 2x4Gb@1600 (can get another 8 GB down the line).
For the processor, it is totally up to you on whether you want to overclock or not. I would say for the extra $25 its worth it, but that is just me. For the proccessor fan, go with the EVO, it is very good for the price, I maid the mistake of getting the h100i, which I should have got the EVO, because for just under 200 you can get a custom water loop. Ghraphics card, get the best you can, but not get something you wish you had gotten, because you want the better graphics card. Also keep in mind blackfriday/cybermonday is coming up, so you never know, I would wait the two weeks personally.

I would say from 750 - 850, because it would give him the possibility to crossfire down the line.

I've actually just revised my budget and just altered it for a CF'd 290 build. Having friends in the tech industry really helps cut down the costs. What would of been a 1.6k build is now a ~1.2k. ;D

And yes I'm OC'ing. I've done 4.2@1.125V on my 4770k already and I'm still working on higher frequencies.

Crossfire'd 290s are very strong, but you would need the right psu and motherboard for it.
Also, did you already buy it? Because the current 290s use the reference cooling design that does a poor job. They are very noisy and the 290 still runs above 90c under load. Having those in crossfire will have the cards be over 100c, which isn't a very good idea.

I have everything except for the 290's. I'm just waiting for the non reference cards to come out and for the alt coin craze to die down some more so the prices aren't so crazy. I have an ax860W right now but I've been getting mixed answers regarding CF'd 290 tdp's. Some say that 850+ is fine but some are saying to go 1k+. If it doesn't work I can sell the 860W anyways.

Here's the build so far. I'm still moving things around/waiting on fans.

Your build looks very clean! I'm not a fan of single radiator CLC because they typically don't perform very well for the price, but aside from that the build is solid.

About the R9-290 wattage, it may or may not work. The maximum wattage of a R9-290 is about 300-350w for a single 290 under full load. Put 2 of them and you get about 600-700. I would suggest a ~1000w psu for this so you won't be stressing out our psu too much.

I got the h90 for ~50 so it's not that much lol. Much cleaner/better than the 212 evo I was originally planning on buying. I'll see if the cf set up works or not, I might just wait until the next architecture comes out Q1 '14 and see how they compare to the hawaii arch.

Oh I meant when Maxwell comes out for the 8xx series but it looks like they probably won't roll them out until late Q2 or Q3 and it might just still be 28nm still. I'm just going to wait until the prices drop back to normal for the 290/290x's and pick 1 or 2 up.
