amd mantle work on intel?

from what i has read on latest apu13 is that, they say amd mantle is open, but issue i has is they bla bla on about HSA and mantle as if that what mantle was made for, a PoS apu cpu with a low end AMD GPU, now i'm really confused if i.m understanding this correctly, API should only be base layer that talks to all hardware, so is it the developers discretion as to what CPU they optimize for? or would optimization gained no matter if its intel or AMD cpu? i mean do all CPU function the same? for most part? or would this API need understand different architectures not just GPU but of CPU as well?

I guess it's all dependent on developer support, I'm not too well versed in this to give specific input. I'm guessing it would be specifically adapted to give higher performance gains on AMD though.

It's made with the newest generation of GPUs in mind as well. Anything using AMD's Graphics Core Next architecture. This means newer generation APUs, HD 7XXX series GPUs, and the new R7 and R9 GPUs.

The API is meant to compete with DirectX and OpenGL, both high-level API's that are not exactly communicating with the hardware on a base level. Mantle is meant to directly work with the hardware with no needless translation in between CPU and GPU. It's a GPU utilization API, nothing to do with CPU instruction sets.

It's speculated that Nvidia and Intel may be able to use it in the future, but so far it's a small set of AMD GPUs that will be able to use it.

Mantle is not open. The following is an interview regarding Mantle with Matt Skynner, vice president and general manager of AMD's graphics business unit. It does not work with nVidia or Intel graphic cores.

has you notice the date on the interview? , mine one came from APU13 November . they possibly changed there minds since then, who know's though i has AMD GPU so if mantle is just for GPU then im good and happy.

At the very least Intel and nVidia would need to implement some hardware requirement used in AMD's GCN architecture in order for Mantle to work. Mantle will only work with GCN generation Radeon cards so anything prior to the Radeon HD 7xxx series will not benefit from Mantle.

AMD's Mantle is about the GFX (a competitor to DirectX / OpenGL) not the CPU. It requires a GCN card (7000 series & newer), so...

AMD's Mantle probably WILL work on:-
- Next-gen consoles (XBOne & PS4)
- AMD CPU with +7000 series discrete AMD GFX card
- Intel CPU with +7000 series discrete AMD GFX card
- AMD APU with +7000 series compatible onboard iGPU

AMD's Mantle probably WON'T work on:-
- AMD CPU with NVidia GFX card
- Intel CPU with NVidia GFX card
- Intel CPU with onboard Intel iGPU

It's about coding more directly for the GFX card hardware, not replacing the x86 instruction set.
