Hi guys, I currently have this Xeon Gallatin chip leftover from my Dad's old server running @ 2.4ghz. I was actually planning to run a cheap server by buying parts online. Heres what I was planning:
2.4GHZ Xeon Gallatin DP + Xeon Gallatin DP 2.8GHZ
4X2GB PC2700 RAM
Intel SE7501CW2 Server Board (E7501 Chipset)
500GB IDE HDD
Antec Neo HE380 Modular
This will run the following servers:
Two FTP Servers
Minecraft server
Counter-Strike server
Web-Server
IRC Server
Is it viable? Please advice

I would say probably not, honestly. I am not sure about mixing two chips with different clock speeds, but even assuming you could, I still think it would be too slow for any kind of game server. These are Netburst chips, so basically similar architecture to Pentium 4s on the desktop. You might be able to run the FTP server, web server, and IRC server, but any game server will likely be too much for it.
