Hello,

I've been reading around Tom's for a few months now (research) but this time, I gotta ask directly.

Here's my build:
i5-4570 (no plans to overclock the CPU, yes)
Gigabyte G1.Sniper B5 motherboard
GT 430 (planned upgrade to a GTX 760 which changed to a 770 after the price cuts and then again swtitched to a Zotac GTX 780 AMP!)
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 CL9
Corsair VS550 PSU

Is that PSU enough for the 780, given the factory overclocks, or should I just stick to the 770 (also a Zotac AMP! since those are the cheapest here and I've seen good reviews)?

I do not intend to switch PSUs. I know that's probably a really good idea, but I don't really have the money, as I'll be buying the GPU as soon as I can. Around January, probably. Besides, my PSU's sparkly new.

Thanks a lot! :)

The site here:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

recommends at least a 575W power supply for the standard 770 and 780. While usually with a good brand PSU, it is possible to use a lower wattage one, given that the +12V rail often supplies ample power,( I can't find anything on this PSU for that), there has been some discussion that the VS550 (including on this site), while Corsair brand, is not up to their usual quality, and Corsair themselves call it an entry level PSU for systems with lower power demands. I am sure that others may be able to give you specifics on this PSU, but I'm not sure it is powerful enough for longer term use with a 770/780, though it is new.

Yes, just seen that. That gives 504 watts on that rail, and I found this on specific power consumption:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-770-gk104-review,3519-25.html

It seems like the PSU should be okay, but as i said earlier, there has been a lot of queries like yours on this and other sites, where the answers have noted that VS series not as good as say the GS series in terms of quality and power reliability.

Say, I took the factory overclocked 780 and slapped it into my system. Are there chances that my GPU would break/get damaged because of being underpowered, or would the low power "bottleneck" the GPU?

If it's the latter, I don't mind getting the 780 soon and then save some money for a better PSU later...and if again, that is the case, I'd love some reasonable (cost-wise) alternatives.

I'm from SEA, so the usual sites that provide shipping are...well...ignored. I just need names and I'll try to search if they're available here or find some good equivalent.

I'll take chimaera201's suggestion, the S12II is VERY easy on my budget and maybe I'll spend a few more for some overhead, the 620W one (should be able to get this two weeks after the 780) but I'll need an answer to my question above - will the VS550 damage my card?

Then I guess the VS550 will hold for two weeks. Thanks. :)

The VS550 will support your system. The question is not whether it will support your system or not but the question is about its longevity. How long will it last? With a high end card like GTX 780 it will i'm guessing last for 3 years. Don't worry it has the proper protections, the PSU will shutdown itself when its not capable of delivering load preventing damages
