wondering if I could upgrade my hd 6490m with a better gpu and maybe the i5 2410m cpu with a i7 second generation.
is that even possible and if yes and someone has tried it where can I buy the pieces?
The slowpoke is a hp pavilion dv6 beats edition with 8gb ddr3 ram

hope I didn't post in wrong section O_O

Solution
for GPU its no, even if you have a dedicated GPU its not like the desktop one.Notebook dedicated GPUs are soldered into motherboard & almost impossible to change,as even if you are experienced with the integrated circuits there are many things which one need to consider like Enough watts, cooling, compatibility etc for new GPU.

For CPU may be you can but with the same family where it belongs to like you have an i5 than it can only upgradable to i5 family considering the CPU generation. But there will be many many things will be needed to match up like:-

- Bus Speed
- Watts
- Cooling
- chipset
- architecture
- etc

So, almost same as the GPU part excluding the soldering thing its almost not possible.

may be you have an upgrade info at...

I'm not sure about the GPU, but you can change the CPU. But I don't recommend doing that because it's way too hard and it's very expensive. Also you won't see any big diffrence between i5 and i7 unless you're doing some pretty hard rendering.

As I said probably no, but make sure that this i7 is 100% compatible with your laptop. i7 won't bring you any noticeable performance in gaming. But if you really want that i7 I don't recommend doing it by yourself. Give it to a professionalist.
