PLEASE HELP:- New build need advice from people who know what they are talking about

Hiya im building my very own gaming machine this is my first time,

can you check my build and make sure everything is compatible together and that this build will work.

i also need a psu but i dont have a clue about those so please can you help tell me what wattage i need and any good makes to go for

MOTHERBOARD- Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 Socket AM3+Motherboard

GRAPHICS/VIDEO CARD- ASUS GeForce GTX 660 Ti Direct CU II 2 GB

MAINBOARD PROCESSOR- AMD FX-6300

RAM- Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) Memory Kit PC3-15000 1866MHz

CASE- Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced USB 3.0 ATX Case

INTERNAL HARD DRIVE- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive SATA 6

500w PSU will be fine here, MAKE SURE it is Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, XFX.

Drop to 8gb RAM because games only use 4gb and 16gb is a huge waste. Use this saved money to change the GPU out for a gtx760.

It helps if you use the format suggested in th thread about how to ask for advice

but some general comments

Unless you are planning on SLI at some stage you can use the ASUS M5A97 R 2.0 motherboard and save around $30

For gaming even 8 gig of RAM is overkill so you dont need more unless you are running encoding or rendering apps .
Fit a 2 x4 gig kit of 1600 Mhz RAM rated for 1.5 volts or less .

Use a seagate Hybrid drive

Fit a Xigmatek GAIA or CM 212 cpu cooler

I would buy a cheaper [ but still good enough ] case .

The money you save will mean you have more to spend on the graphics card . And that is where your real game performance will come from

great advice thanks i have swapped the motherboards for the one you said.

i read on toms hardware page that ram of 1886mhz is better than 1660 is that correct if so ill go for the corsair vengeance 2x4GB 1866 .

There will be no noticeable performance difference between the RAM.

Dave what is your budget? I apologize if I missed it. Also are you AMD or Intel bias, just so I can see what I can come up with. Oh and where are you located, better yet which site will you be purchasing your parts from.

Ugh, I hate the Xigmatek Gaia, I lost a motherboard and nearly lost an entire build because of that CPU cooler. And why a hybrid drive? What advantage do you have over an SSD / HD combo? And yeah posting your budget would help us help you better.

I bet the Xigmatek GAIA didnt cause the loss of your motherboard . Something you did wrong probably did that because GAIA's have a very decent reputation .

The reason you would use a hybrid drive instead of an SSD and a conventional hard drive is cost , and ease of set up .

Almost as fast as an SSD , and enough storage . With a saving of at least $50 . Set up is ..non existent . You plug it in . No registry hacks and no symbolic links .
