Hi,

I just finished my new build.

  • MB: Asus Hero ATX
    CPU: 4770K
    GPU: Asus 780Ti
    SSD: Samsung 840
    HDD: WD 3TB Red
    PSU: Corsair 860i
    Ram:Corsair V Pro 2400Mhz
    Case:Corsair 750D

Symptoms

I just finished an hour playing Battlefield 4. As I am a big FlightSim enthusiast, and not owning a powerful computer in a long time - I decided to install it. The computer turned itself off during the install, and refused to start again. It automatically tried several times, each attempt lasted for half a second.

I then decided to do some well known Googling, and it looks like people struggling with DOA motherboards - but in my case it works great, as I am writing this from the troubled PC.

After I left it for 3-4 minutes it finally raised from the dead again. Not really sure what to do next though..

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Help us understand a bit better:

You built it, installed Windows and Battlefield 4 (amongst other stuff). Worked fine for a while, including an hour of intensive Battlefield 4 gaming. Then, while installing FlightSim, it shut itself down. Rebooted itself a few times, and failed to POST each time. After 3-4 minutes, you were able to turn it back on, and has been working ever since.

Is that right?

Yes, that's right. I'm also running Windows 8.1.

It's still going strong at this point. Threw some Prime95 at it, temps looks fine. I just can't see what the hell is going on..

Well, can't fix it if it's not broken.... Just pay extra attention and see if it happens again. If it does, we'll have a behaviour pattern and it'll be easier to figure it out. Outlander has a point, the 2400MHz RAM speed might bring some unstability to the table. Good luck.

Hi again,

at this moment, I can´t turn it on anymore. Seems like the PSU is the fault, so I´ll buy another 860i tomorrow. Let´s hope that will fix it.

Update.

This morning it would not boot again, after a few tries it finally did. After class I went out and bought another 860i and installed it. I'll report back with the results.
