Hi my system is restarting itself constantly. It will power off and then power itself back on after anytime between 5 seconds and 5 minutes. Sometimes it wont even post before it turns off and other times I will get into windows for about 2 minutes before it shuts down. When it powers off in windows it actually shuts down properly and powers off before turning itself back on. I can get into the bios and check tempatures and they are fine. Cpu about 40° but the system will still restart itself even with the bios open. My b1 ram slot also seems to have stopped working about 3 months ago so I have my ram in the a1 and a2 slots. (I tried different ram and none was detected in the b1 slot)

My system is almost 4 years old now. I have a
Asus p7p55d motherboard
I7 860 cpu
Vantec ion2 600w psu
Nvidia gtx 275 gpu
2x8gb gskill ddr3 1600 ram
M4 256gb ssd for os drive
1tb wd hdd
Dvdrw drive
Windows 7 64bit.

The ram and ssd I added almost a year ago. Everything else is about 4 years old.

Tempatures are fine I have been able to check in the bios and also with speedfan. Ive tried swapping my ram, using only 1 stick. Even using my old ram which was 2gb adata 1333 ram. The same problem happens. Ive also unplugged my hdds and taken my gpu out and my system still restarts itself. I have cleared the cmos too, tried using the default settings and also setting the specified settings also and my system still restarts itself.

One thing that I noticed was after unplugging my system overnight and all day while I was at work I was able to use it for an hour before it started to restart itself so perhaps the psu is overheating and unable to cool itself? The psu fan is working fine though.

I also had a problem similar to this about 3 months ago where I ended up unplugging all my components and clearing the cmos to fix it before I found out my b1 ram slot does not seem to be working. The system had been fine since then until last night though. The only issue I noticed in the last 3 months was my computer turning itself on randomly overnight or during the day and staying on probally twice a week. Two times in these last 3 months I have come home to find my system had started itself and attempted to perform a startup repair which had failed. I just restarted my system both times after this and it was fine. It has also never turned itself off while I was using it since then. I even ran prime95 and furmark overnight with no problems.

So i think ive narrowed my issues down to my psu failing or motherboard failing. I guess if my b1 ram slot stopped working it could be the motherboard but I thought since my system still can boot into windows for a few minutes maybe not.

Any ideas would appreciated. Im planning to buy a new psu tomorrow anyway so hopefully that might fix it. Or else I guess I will end up upgrading finall.

That PSU is complete junk. MAke sure the new one is Antec, XFX, Corsair, or Seasonic.

I finally got a new psu and I'm still having the same problem. Sometimes I can get into Windows for a few minutes. Other times it won't even post. So I'm guessing it is probably the motherboard then unless anyone has some ideas?
