Hi,
I’m trying to find a practical no hassle way of backing up. I use Lightroom and Photoshop for cataloguing and editing my images. All my image files are on a portable 1.5 Terabyte external drive, “F” connected via USB 3 but Lightroom and Photoshop are on my “C” drive. I don’t need to save the LR or PS programs themselves- I can always reinstall- but my edits, previews, preferences and metadata are also stored on the “C” drive – example:

Windows—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ My Pictures \ Lightroom \ Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat

I also need to back up some “hidden” files such as:

Windows—C: \ Users \ [your username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ Lightroom \

I bought a WD 3 Terabyte My Book running WD Smartware to use as a backup but found out that the bundled software only lets me backup from one drive. I can return the WD, so I’ll do that tomorrow.

My question is what should I get instead? I’ve seen a lot of free backup software to download as well as other moderately priced programs -and I’ve already got the OS backup program included in Windows 7.

My plan was to get another external drive, lets call it “G”, do an initial backup of selected files from both C and F, and then have the software run in the background doing incremental backups.
Can I do this? What hardware/software should I get? Is there a better backup solution?

Windows 7 Professional – 64 bit
Photoshop CS 5
Lightroom 4.3

Thanks,
David
