Hi, my motherboard is an Asus Z87 Sabertooth and this issue started two days ago after I unplugged the mic jack on my headset from my PC (I normally leave it plugged in and just plug out the headphones when I am not using them). My audio drivers have two connector settings, "HD audio" and "AC97".

In HD audio the mic is no longer detected by the PC at all, while in AC97 the mic is detected and working but audio is played through both the headset and speakers and manually turning off the speakers seems to be the only way to get audio through the headset only.

I updated to the latest drivers yesterday but it had no effect. The physical connector used is the HD audio one. The UEFI is set to HD audio (I tried changing it to AC97 but it had no effect).

I was using the HD audio setting before this started.

I imagine fixing either problem would work fine but, I'd rather get the HD audio mic issue sorted. And while it is something I can work around, I'd rather not have to.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

With the Realtek Audio manager if you go to the Advanced settings, which is usually in the top right corner, there is an option where you can Split the front and back audio into two different channels. They will show in your Sound Devices as two different ones then and you can play sound out of both at the same time based on how you set it up. When you do this you will not play the same sound out of both at the same time though.

But for instance with games you could have the game sound coming out of your speakers which are connected to the back sound ports and then use the front panel audio to chat on skype with the headset. etc

Above is a screenshot of how it is configured at the moment, with these settings it still does not mute the rear audio when the headphones are plugged in. When I swap to the HD audio setting, swapping the playback device works normally but the mic is not detected at all.
