I know there are some threads but the ones I read had no info as to what was changed. figure I would pick up a new power supply since its the best time of year to get one.

running a AMD Phenom x4 910 on it. just thought I would get better power supply and cpu if I can snag one cheap.

The HP pavilion e9120y uses a standard ATX size PSU, a quality PSU from such brands as Antec, Corsair, SeaSonic or XFX should work nicely. If considering a brand other than one of those, please post here - not all PSUs are good, in fact there is quite a bit of junk out there masquerading as PSU's - we should be able to help you avoid those beasts.

I am running 3 hard drives on this rig (2 sata and 1 USB) and I was thinking the weak power supply could use a upgrade.

HDD's in and of themselves don't draw too much power (~10W), you should be able to tell when your PSU is getting taxed as it will become louder but, for peace of mind, I might suggest looking at the Rosewill CAPSTONE-450 as an option, it is a highly rated PSU built by SuperFlower
