PSU bottleneck on alienware X-51, possible to case transfer?

Hi everyone,
I bought the alienware X-51 slim PC last year, did my fine for a while but I decided to upgrade the graphics card from a 555 to a 660ti.
What I didn't realize was that the 660ti needs more power (even though its listed as the same wattage as the 555) so now I have a massive bottleneck when gaming, which is very bad.
My only option to fix this would be to have a new PSU. The PC is fitted with a 330 Watt external adapter, which is the biggest watt adapter that is available, so of course I would need a new case.

My question is: Would I run into any problems with case transfering? Could there be parts in the PC which only conform with the adapter PSU, or would they all be compatible with a conventional PSU as well.

Solution
How does this bottleneck describe itself? Not enough power usually means crashes and shut downs. If your new card did not have the same design that is exhausting heat out of the case heat build up is a more likely culprit. On the Alienware forum there are people running GTX670 on the 330watt.

Interesting theory, did not know people were using the 670.
As for the bottleneck, when I first join a game I get great frame rates, but after a short time it drops from 100+ to 30 or so.

How can I alleviate a heat problem?

Well the case is not well ventilated and the original GPU had a cooler that blew the heat out through the back. To test this theory (to me it is obvious since your description is typical for thermal throttling) try running with the case open. To fix it replace the card with correct cooler design card or mod the case for a fan to vent hot air out!
