Nvidia 8800 ultra powered by one 6 pin [HELP]

Hey guy's, I was wondering, my graphics card is supposed to be powered by 2 6 pins, does this mean that right now the graphics card is underpowered? I'm getting a new PSU with 2 6 pin pcie for the graphics card. Will the performance increase at all? any thoughts about this?

What's your current power supply and how many amps does it supply? You can use an adapter that uses two 4 pin molex wires for power. It has a 6 pin PCIe connector on the other end but your PS might not be powerful enough. I ran an 8800 GTS 640mb using only one 4 pin molex plugged into the adapter mentioned above and the PC ran fine.

Its 650 watts its a no name since i just bought an hp workstation to upgrade. I would say that the psu not powering the graphics card enough is the reason i lag in games, my other system specs are an intel xeon e5440 2.83ghz 4 core 12 mb cache, 4gb ddr2 FB DIMMS

I didn't play games with my 8800 GTS but to answer your question... Yes the card is underpowered. You need to connect both power connections. A 650 watt PS should be fine but you may need an adapter I mentioned above.

If you don't have enough power going to the card, it won't just be slow, it won't work at all or be crashing soon after you turn on the computer.

The lag is either from a game you are trying to run at too high settings for the CPU and video card, or something else. NOT how much power you have feeding the video card. More wattage to the video card does not equal things like more power to a car engine, it either has enough power to run, or it does not and it won't.

You need to plug in all the power leads the card needs. It just won't make it run faster if you add more power to it. It NEEDS to be hooked up to the power that the vendor build into it. If it has two power leads, you need to hook up both. Has nothing to do with performance. It's like taking 2 tires off a car. You won't just make it go half as fast, it won't drive at all that way, at least not properly. A regular car needs 4 tires, you don't put 4 tires on it just so it will go fast, it needs 4 to simply go, period. If the video card was made to be used with two power plugs, you need to run it with both in use.

If you don't, you can kill the card, and sometimes even the slot it's plugged into.
