I know it's usually the other way round...
But I installed Windows 7 on my Vista laptop when it was rebooted some time go. I then did a backup onto a Vervatim external hard drive. When I next had to have it rebooted they put Vista back on and now I can't get the backup to restore - it says there is no backup available even though the files are they when I open them from the backup location on the external hard drive. I can export but only file by file, which would take hours (maybe days). Does anyone know how to make the restore work this way round?

If you used the built-in backup utility (from Backup & Restore in Control Panel), the one in Windows 7 is not compatible with the one in Vista, and vice-versa. You should have used a third-party backup tool that's compatible with both Windows versions.

Hi. Thank you for you reply - if I'm honest, I don't know how it was backed up as it was well over and year ago and a friend did it for me as I am terrible with computers! But it sounds as though that is what happened so is extracting each file individually the only way? I have a lot of music backed up so it will be a very lengthy process.
