Hi there,

I bought Dead Island with a magazine (I bought it in Poland...) it worked perfectly well there but now that I am back in the UK I've just seen that serial number was made for Poland only.

Is there any FREE program that could change my IP to a Polish way.

By the way, I'm running the game on Steam (Is there like a secret option to change the location or something like that..?)

You can either pay for a polish VPN or use a polish proxy. There are services you can pay for. There are free proxies too, but you won't get any speed at all, and they are usually limited to HTTP (port 80).

It will be cheaper for you to get the game in the UK...

IP addresses are assigned by the ISP, and this is how web / game servers determine your geographic location. You cannot simply change your IP address (you can, but then you will have no internet service).

Changing your interface-reported IP address is doable, and depending on how the network is configured there is no problem. The ARP will take care of updating the address routing list. The problem is ISPs track modems hardware identifiers, and assign IP addresses using a local database. If you just change your IP address, the ISP will basically see illegal packets coming from your modem, and drop them.

To mask your IP address, you can easily forward your interface traffic through a proxy server.

Think again what you just wrote, or prove me wrong.

IP routing is based on network addresses, not on individual IP addresses. So a IP address from Polish ISP will be always routed to that ISP' borderline router, and then dowmstream until it reaches its target (or gets dropped), and it has no chance of reaching you on UK ISP.

I do not disagree with what you said. My mistake for answering vaguely and not in the context of OP's question. It has been almost a year since my original response and I misread what OP had asked :)
