I'm still rocking a MSI 790fx gd-70 and I love it. That was 3 years ago. My whole family has MSI boards and video cards now, and we haven't had a single issue. I'd go for the MSI board personally.

I have to say one thing though. Usually when MSI motherboards first get released they have issues that need to be fixed by future bios updates, and they are fixed and supported properly. So early adopters may get mad when they first get it if it's still on the original bios. The biggest issue here is that reviews are usually written before the issues are fixed, which can make the board look particularly bad compared to the competition.

My board got pretty bad reviews when it first came out, but after some research I found out that bios updates had fixed the issues and it was now one of the best overclockers in its class in terms of stability and how far you could push the clocks.

Ok from what I've read and what you guys are saying i think i'll probably go for the msi mobo. I've read in quite a few places about the gigabyte boards overheating. Thanks for your help!

sorry for the incredibly late reply!
in the end I I did get the msi board, and to date I have not noticed any issues at all, so I guess I could recommend it.

In terms of the build its pretty fantastic (although I did make some alterations), and I am able to play most modern titles mostly at high, sometimes even ultra settings at 60 fps, although I do use a 1280x1024 monitor.

Thanks a lot for all your help :)
