Hello,

I am looking to get a RAM upgrade on an older box I have. My motherboard is the ASUS A8N32-SLI. I currently have kingston HyperX 2x512MB (KHX3200AK2/1G). It is running Windows 7 32-bit.

The options seem to be getting another 2x512 set, 2 x 1GB set or 1x 1GB. It looks like because of dual channel, it is better to get 2x512 instead of 1x1GB. Is my understanding correct? If I buy 2x1GB of the same timings as my 2x512MB, it should be fine using the 4 modules, correct?

Thanks

It is better to get 2x512MB instead of 1x1GB, but only if the 512 MB sticks are cheaper than the 1 GB one. Since this computer appears quite old, I don't think it matters. Just choose the least expensive option.

Yes. Just insert the sticks like this:
Slot 1: 1 GB
Slot 2: 512 MB
Slot 3: 1 GB
Slot 4: 512 MB
...and you should be fine. I don't think it's very likely you would mess up.
