my pc monitor only has a blue analogue connector can i connect it to a digital graphics card

Hi, i have a new pc running windows 8 but my old monitor only has a blue connector to fit into the gralhics card. I get an error message telling me it is the wrong resolution and it just halts, and wont load windows. I have tried to connect with an adapter that converts the blue analogue to hdmi but it still wont work. Is there anything i can do, other than buy a new monitor?

Find a monitor that you can use so that you can set the resolution down to somewhere like 800x600 then start it on your monitor and adjust it from there. If you have a TV that has an hdmi port or something, just for a single time use to set the resolution down, would be perfect to use.
