i5 660GTX vs FX-8350 7870HD

I'm considering two different builds:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Storage: A-Data Premier Pro SP900 128GB
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply: Corsair 600W ATX12V

($789.77 after rebates)

VS.

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB
Storage: A-Data Premier Pro SP900 128GB
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 7870 2GB
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply: Corsair 600W ATX12V

($750.78 after rebates)

This would mostly be for Civ5 and Skyrim.

I would get the Intel system pretty much little to none difference in the GPU's but a better CPU.
Just to make sure you know, it is fine to use Nvidia cards with AMD and AMD cards with Intel!
  2. Thanks, rolli59 ... I agree that I could go either way with the GPU... I'm leaning toward the 7870 with the i5 config.

  3. Over all it has slightly better performance than the GTX660
  4. I don't know much about PowerColor as a brand, but it seem that a 7870 2GB, for $149.00 after a $30 rebate is a steal.

  5. They are a budget brand and have been around for a long time, it is steals like that that sells their cards. You get a card at the price level for the performance group below. I had a X800GT from them many years ago used it for two years and sold it fully working.
