Hello all. I've read through countless threads with similar problems, but have had no luck fixing this issue. Here's a quick rundown:

- Home network, 2 computers (1 wired, 1 wireless), both running vista pro, both having the same issue.
- Issue started when the modem and router were unplugged to move furniture. When they were plugged back in, we could no longer connect.
- Can ping google, but can't load page
- Can't connect to google IP either
- Can't connect in any browser
- Windows firewall is disabled
- No other firewalls installed
- Ran nortan removal tool
- No proxy being used, browsers aren't configured to connect via one
- Reset winsock
- Flushed DNS
- ISP said their able to connect to us, and they see no problems on their end
- Windows troubleshooting report says "website (microsoft.com) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts".
- Tried a new router and modem. No combination of the 4 worked. Reset all to factory defaults and updated each.
- Using automatic DHCP configurations and automatically assigned settings
- Tried using public various public DNSs

I'm sure there's things I'm forgetting - feels like I've tried everything!

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply, but still not working after trying this. I tried restarting everything countless times and connecting them in every possible order, but I still get the same issue.

i would then give a check on the router cable and does you set it power up and the light on the lan and wan blink when you try to connect ot modem see also if the modem light blink and on network connection check the network chioset if the is nothing abnornal like a ? mark or a yellow triangle see in the internet connection under control panel under network if the paramaters are set to auto detect .

try manually configuring IP, GATEWAY, SUBNET on your adapter settings
did you try using a static DNS? reset everything (power on Modem, Router, Switch respectively)
If you can ping, you have a live connection, packets are able to go back and fourth.
I was wondering if it would be a browser(program) issue, but you said, all browers dont work.
---
also try deleting all browsing history, as well as all of the cookies and etc.
let me know...

when it all fails...reformat FTW!

If you can ping from the CMD box there is nothing too wrong with your router or NIC config so it comes back to the browser.

Most often when I hit this symptom (re-purposing old XP machines in the main) it's a browser proxy issue.
Check that its configuration isn't pointing at a proxy on a different subnet.
