Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN
Driver: 16.1.1
Windows updates are up to date.

This is my old computer that I gave to my gf. I checked programs and made sure nothing crazy was running, and had her run a bitdefender scan and nothing came up.

My usual troubleshooting (on every computer I own) is to run ping 8.8.8.8 -t. That way if at any time something is weird, I can check the ping window and see if it's a blip in my network or something else. Hers keeps timing out, even though it's 3 feet from mine (or even in the same place).

I've had her run ipconfig /release /renew... sometimes that helps for a little bit, sometimes not at all.

Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Solution
Try to change the wireless channel and see what happens. You could have interference and that machine is just more susceptible to it.

It should have no issues working at those distances though. I would be suspect of some form of failure in the wireless card or the antenna connection. If the wireless card was ever removed sometime the antenna connectors are not snapped back in correctly. You could have also broken the thin wires that run though the hinge area to the antenna behind the screen.

Cheapest this is to pick up a $10 USB wireless card and see if it works better.

Here's something interesting.. when I took her laptop into my office (where the modem/router is located) to test out the hard connection, her wireless popped back up plain as day. I did some testing and it appears that after about 20 feet or so, right when I hit a doorway, it keels over and dies. Even outside that doorway it gets slightly better, but never as good as before the doorway.

The odd part is that I have almost no problem with my laptop, which is about 3 feet from hers (of course mine is newer). So I'm guessing it's a combination of router and wireless card?

Here's a diagram to illustrate what goes on. It's important to note that the doorway of doom does not have an actual door, and the doorway to the office is never shut.

That's a good idea Bill. May just have to do that.

Here's something crazy.. when she has it in her lap on the couch, it's terrible. When she moves it 1 foot to put it on the end table, it shoots up in speed.
