Hello, first post here. I came across your website via google researching how to upgrade my desktop so I can keep up with a few of the newer games coming out that I enjoy killing my evenings with.

Currently running a old PC, so excuse me if this thing is a joke because I am 100% computer illiterate, BUT I am an avid forum user so I researched how to post this topic before posting it at least.

Model: Dell Inspirion 560
Pentium Dual Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
GPU: Intel G45/43 Express Chipset 1695 MB Total Memory

Anything else needed? That's all I could really find on the thing.

I was looking into the Radeon HD 7970 3GB or the Radeon
R7 260X, they seem to be in my price range, but then I'll need to upgrade my RAM and I would like to try and get the best deal I can on it even if that means going into the 16GB of Ram area.

Your ram would not be the only bottleneck (thing holding you back) as your cpu is also rather old. my best advice would be to plan on doing a complete over haul but buying your new card/RAM first as even though it would be bottlenecked it can still be used. Then you should upgrade both your CPU and motherboard to fully utilize either card.

So, I personally don't know how to route my course of action. I am mainly aiming to play the new "A Realm Reborn" on my PC though at the moment, with more games in the future im sure.

FXIV: ARR Minimum System Requirements

Operating System: Windows® Vista 32/64bit, Windows® 7 32/64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo
Graphics: NVIDIA® Geforce® 8800 Series, ATI Radeon™ HD 4770
Memory: 2GB (4GB recommended for 64bit OS)
Disk Space: 20GB.

You may notice that these are lower than the minimum system requirements for v1.0. This is because Square Enix wants the game to be more accessible and run on a wider range of PCs.

FXIV: ARR Recommended System Requirements

For the best performance you should aim to run the game on a system with at least these specifications.
Operating System: Windows® 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5
Graphics: NVIDIA® Geforce® GTX 660 or higher, AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 or higher
Memory: 4GB of RAM.
Disk Space: 20GB.

What GPU/Ram should I purchase and what CPU/Motherboard would be recommended? I am on a budget so top-notch isn't what im looking for but I definitely want an upgrade

I'd say for the upgrades as a whole, Id like to stay 600-900. I wouldn't want to drop it all at once though, perhaps buying parts at a time synced up too lessen the bottlenecking as much as possible.

You can get whole new PC with the amount provided :D
I also faced these problems last year...

Generally, best parts are :- (Best parts in $900 for Gaming Computers)
1. CPU - Intel Core i5 2310k
2. GPU - ASUS Nvidia GeForce GT630 4GB DDR3
3. PSU - Corsair VS 650 W
4. MBD - Intel DH6WW
5. RAM - G.Skill Sniper 4 GB RAM (2x)
6. DVD - ASUS 24x DVD Reader/Writer
7. HDD - WD Clavier Green 1TB Desktop HDD
8. OS - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 / Windows 7 Professional x64

All these parts must make up to $800. (USD)
Make up and handle the sound system, internet routers and everything else besides.

Well, That's all there is :)
This will make up an awesome computer which can handle any medium work load for 2013.
