So I got the recent update to windows 8.1, and my touchpad reverted itself to the stupid tap-to-click option. However, the icon is no longer available on the task bar, and I cannot find the touchpad anywhere in order to turn it off. Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

I don't know the brand of the touchpad, but the laptop is an Acer Aspire.

Solution
Head to the Acer website and search your model number (it will be more specific than simply Acer Aspire). Download and install the trackpad software again and you should should be able to revert the trackpad setting back to the way you want it. If you don't find a download section specific to Windows 8.1, check for a section for either Windows 8, or Windows 7 instead. The trackpad driver from previous versions of Windows *should* work ok in 8.1.
