Which one is better for gaming and video Editing.Make your mind first about card and CPU and then ask for one LOL.
Anyways GTX-780 ti is even better then titan in FPS(for gaming)
its bit costly but reliable coz its nvida and its GTX-TI
it has more Cuda cores then 290x streaming units(cuda and streaming units are more less same thing)

I would say that 290X and 780 Ti is equal, to say anything else is ignoring most of the results you'd find out there look at HardOCP (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/11/11/geforce_gtx_7...) Where these to cards face each other.
290X is the most cost efficient but also the loudest, so if you could live with that I'd say you should go for that one on the other hand 780 Ti would be a equally good choice.

Like your answer before it's not providing any evidence or fact towards your opining which makes your opinion non-worthy. What makes 780 more future proof then 290X apart from your personal opinion. And sir, your reply should therefore be answer with ridicule and contempt.
I'd say there are nothing that strengthen your opinion that I know of.

You are obviously a teenage n00b, and so are the bozos that gave you their clueless answers.
The correct answer(s) are:
- A teenager with a budget for $400-900 for just a graphics card, means you have a budget for a $2K rig. Where the ph*ck did you get that cash? Your mom's credit card? If you want to waste $700 to play games, you need to grow a brain or get your ass back to school until you can afford a professional workstation for WORK, instead of wasting other people's cash on stupid 3D war games.
- NONE of these cards are pro grade. Having said that, EVERYTHING the rest of the bozos here told you is the exact opposite.
The future is OpenCL and Mantle. Not the proprietary Cuda SHIT. Every single one of the pro software either has or will have full OpenCL support within 2014 and phase out Cuda. OpenCL is supported by the entire community, while Cuda is a closed nVidia PoS.
- The 290X is a marketing JOKE. Get a 290 and watercool it with a ready closed-loop system with that $100 that you save from not buying the 290X.
- 2 X 290s watercooled are the same price as one 780Ti watercooled, and you get 2 cards with 2GB vram MORE, and 512Bit EACH, instead of a single 3GB with only 384Bit. The numbers speak for themselves.
- AMD's support for Linux and open software is second to none. nVidia's is almost non-existent.
So..........do I need to say more on what card is better as an investment and future proof ?
Stay away from nVidia's overpriced CRAP and if you want more games/less pro software buy 2 watercooled 290s,
if you want more pro software/less gaming get a FirePro w7000, the best bang for your (mom's) buck.
..........and STOP asking for advice for pro hardware in consumer-grade forums. Get advice from PROs, not amateur kids.
Btw, the best pro rig for editing is AVID-Dual Xeon-2xFireGLw7000, in case you're wondering. I know, because I have it.
My advice: Stop *king around with stupid games made by idiots that demand a supercomputer to run their shitty code, build a general purpose rig to serve you in every aspect for years, and get a girlfriend to have fun. And change your stupid nickname.
.......teens these days........I'm too old for this crap.

Why are you so agitated? Kids do like to have fun. They also test the waters of life, including others patients. Calm down and also except you are not 100% as to your advice towards gfx card and editing solution. I am an professional editor and I am fluent with 90% of editing solutions. From Avid, Purple, Pinnacle, Sony, Final Cut, Premiere etc. The solutions often flutter from one card to the next. You will find most will not recommend AMD (not to say they don't work), and barely recommend GTX 700's etc. Most, if not all, almost completely rely on CPU power, Ram (speed and size) and HDD SSD speed. More cuda cores help if you are to use a gaming card, but not by much! The best information is on all the respective sites. Also, a 4th gen i7 can easily and effortlessly run all the editing software available with the right hardware matched. An AMD 4 and 8 core fx processors can also make good work with most software too. In fact, I was running a light system for a few months. It consisted of a phenom 9550 and 8Gb of 1333 ram and a humble gt 640. I managed quite well. It only struggled with AVCHD files. I'm not sure of the OTT info from yourself.

if you go off benchmarks http://www.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu/AMD+Radeon+R9+29... they have the exact same score. except the R9 290x is like £100 cheaper.

Trust me I'm an AMD guy and they are that much better. Well when it comes to gaming anyways. Now AMD has been getting better but not up to par yet. I'm an nvidia guy but I still always go with amd because of the drastic decrease in prices. In fairness yes my gtx 770 was amazing and I loved it and all the features that come with it. Still wouldn't pay gtx prices compared with amd. Titan Z £2300 hahahhaha

Do you have Linux? I'm just curious, I'm not attacking, cuz if you have a way that makes the amd drivers good I'd love to get in on it. Cuz as far as performance on windows goes for the price I go amdDidn't think u was attacking. Nope I have windows 8.1, the drivers are alright it's only on a few games they are bad and if it's a blockbuster game the drivers are fine, for instance I had problems wit watchdogs with my amd and next day they released new beta driver updates and it plays fine

Honestly, you look like a retard. I will not even bother to explain why.You are too stupid to understand.
Nvidia cards ARE much better then amd.
Gtx 780 ti cost 100$ more then 290x,but it is way better, and also it don't make rocket noise in your case, and it don't need rocker power.
So I will always go for Nvidia,at least for now, they are better at high end cards.
Except with titan z,that card is bad for the money.

In the UK you can have two new HD 7990's for the price of one of the above cards mentioned. Now AMD have sorted the driver issues, nothing on the planet can compete with that proverbial bang for buck. In fact, on paper, just one is more powerful the respectively mention 290x and 780ti. And, in my experience with of the latest games, a single 7990 is at least 12-20% up on the above (yes, I am aware its a dual GPU. Yet it is a single card). I know because I've had all three. Paired with a reasonable i7 to help with physx, you have quite a mini colossus!GD65 Z8Z £75
2x MSI HD 7990's £500
Corsair 1200w £160
i7 4770k £200
16Gb @2133Mhz £140
Take your pick of cases, cooling solutions and HHD's SSD's etc £150-£300
£1,075 for bare bones and all round corker for the price of what some PS4's were selling for last Christmas on sheBay.
If you must have one of the above, I would go for the 290x because there is nothing in it at all in an everyday experience. However, I would consider a 780Ti if it were the black edition if money was no issue. Yet, if you only want horsepower and performance for the least amount of cash and you don't care which company makes the horses, definitely go for a 7990 or two!
I have only used Premiere Pro CS6 with the above so far, editing is swift and fluent with no issues.
Nobody mention that card but ok. Still it draw power like crazy. Also it make a lot of noise, and more heat. Gtx 780 ti is better for gaming. Get msi overclocked and there you go. It is single gpu which is alos better.

@gamer1411 I am fully aware no one mentioned the 7990. That is precisely the reason I did! I previously stated in an earlier comment which card Sam should buy out of the 290x and 790Ti. Now I'll say it again. I like gaming and I am a professional editor, fluent in nearly every editing format and solution there is. From premier, Avid, Purple, Final cut, Sony etc. No editing manufacturer really recommends or supports either card. But out of the two, the 780Ti is recommended more often, as ATI/AMD rarely are. This is due to Nvidias use of Cuda cores which editing solutions favour. Having said that, they are not vital. They only assist with transitional effects and effects alone. With nearly all editing solutions and turnkey options, processor, SSD, HDD and RAM speeds are the most vital and in key performance hardware needs for editing. As for gaming, there is nothing really in it as far as performance goes. It is marginal, with the 780Ti coming out on top, yet the dramatic price comparison places the 290x as my personal (and many other professional tests and casual gamers agree with). I have owned both and suggested the 290x was the better deal. I need to make this clear, just because AMD/ATI aren't on the recommended lits, doesn't mean they do not work. They do!
I don't care too much about whether Sam likes my choice so much, its for others like myself who spend years researching and saving before buying. I'm not a representative for either or any gfx company. I'm not going to spurt out my personal bench marks etc just yet. The results and proof are all over Tom's and hundreds of other trusted sites on the net.
So, after explaining myself, I shall now offer what I think should be offered. A third and forth option supported by the same trusted sites and many of Tom's own tests/review's. Go check them or simply type HD 7990 into Google or 7990 vs!
For the prices of the above you can have two HD 7990's.
Just one is faster than the 780Ti and 290x respectively, FACT! Upon the 7990's release, AMD advertised the card as the fasted card on the market. By law, they cannot lie and their proof has to be backed up before they proclaim their card to be that. Otherwise, Nvidia and Co can sue etc. It held the rank of fastest and most powerful card until April this year, only yielding to its younger brother, the 295x2, then to the Titan Z. The 7990 is now been discontinued. The 7990 flopped due to its early driver issues, or should I say, lack of drivers to assist that particular monolithic card. By late October last year AMD were back on track with relation to their drivers and the card was what it should have been on its release. However, the damage had been done. In the minds of many, and at a time the card was priced the same as the Titan and 690 ($1000+) who was willing to take the risk. With a majority of actual game tests showing 7/10 of the best and most popular games of the time (far cry, crysis 3, BF4, Cod Ghosts, Tomb Raider, BioShock inf etc) running 12-20% (sometimes even 24% faster) faster and better on the HD 7990 than its main rivals, the Titan, 690, 780Ti, 780, 7970 GHz edition (which the 7990 is two of), 680 and 770. With more recent games like Watchdogs, the 7990 in my experience was fantastic. With no glitches, rips, tares, freezes etc at a capped 60Fps its was a min of 60Fps, Average 60Fps and max 60Fps. Crysis 3 min 32Fps, average 46fps max and capped 60fps all on ultra. including AA etc. When I say ultra I do mean every single setting available is set to its maximum @1920x1080p. Bf4 I tested without Vsync with a min of 114fps max of 200+fps etc etc. Remember, modern and future games will run even better as the are coded to support more than on GPU.
The 7990 is as quiet as the 690. Barely noticeable under stress (takes a lot to stress), if at all than the 780Ti and quieter than the 290x.
When a $1,000+ price tag is adorned upon a single component, do you think power consumption was on the list of priorities. It is likening to buying a £100,000 Range Rover and worrying about fuel consumption! With Hardware of this kind, it is considered that, if you can afford the card, the dollar or two a week/month more on electricity wouldn't be a issue, let alone considered. With the current price of the 7990 matched with its performance, it was very moronic to suggest such trivial drivel and tripe!
The 7990 is only £270 new now on eBay. Two can be had for £500. The price of a single 780Ti in some cases!
I've had problems which I thought was down to the card. In fact it was a PSU failure and nothing to do with the card. So the card has worked flawlessly since I've owned it. It has out performed my 780Ti (its results in actual play are not far of that of x2 780Ti's I had set in SLI) and 290x. At idle, core 0 is a consistent 40c and core 1 is is @37c. Under full load after and hour the peak temperature of core 0 is a maximum of 78c and core 1 @76c. The card is XFX reference triple fan that never exceed 37% speed. My case is large. An Areoflow Xpredator.
I've bought and used 150+ cards since 1996, and tested many many more. A majority of which were Nvidia, as they the best for some time, and definitely the most common. I build a new system every 3-5 years for myself, but in between that time I'm replacing gfx cards, PSU's and ram more often than any other component. When a processor or motherboard need upgrading, that is the time I have a complete new system rebuild. All the while I'm researching future candidate components very closely. I've build many other systems for many others for many purposes.
To not buy a 7990 at the price they are at now is a lesson in stupidity. Spurting out "Nvidia rock and are the best" is nothing. Means nothing, and proves nothing. They are a very good card. Yet since AMD and Rad merged, AMD have not only fast tracked their way into being that, an Nvidia head ache, they have now exceeded their performance twice. Build quality may not seam as good to the eye or touch but it is nevertheless, as good. It is the tacky feel and look that helps AMD keep their prices cheaper. If they can stay on top of their drivers, I could honestly see them taking the sales crown soon.
In a nutshell, buy a 7990 and save loads whilst gaining serious power and performance, or buy two 7990's. If not, buy a 290x and use the saving to buy whatever. Water cooled 7990 is still far cheaper than a 290x and 780Ti. All because of Amd cocking up driver support at launch date. Take full advantage whilst you can Sam. I know I'm buying another one in 9 days. Quad crossfire, or crossfired 7990's for £500, bargain!
I don't care too much about whether Sam likes my choice so much, its for others like myself who spend years researching and saving before buying. I'm not a representative for either or any gfx company. I'm not going to spurt out my personal bench marks etc just yet.

Paired with a reasonable i7 to help with physx, you have quite a mini colossus!
GD65 Z8Z £75

Agree.he shouln't say anything bad if he wants to buy expensive graphic card. For example I have a job on internet, earn nice amount of money, and now I want to buy PC that cost more then 2000$,but that is my money, and I really need new PC so I can work on it.

As an owner of 290X I can say it simple - 780Ti is faster than 290X... It is pretty obvious from the many reviews and the whole Mantle thing is not going right now anyway so don't Mantle me here...
However, it is only a bit faster, really, while it costs significantly more. Additionally 290X covers you with a nice 4GB VRAM for extra futureproofing or crossfire 4K gaming.
Pure brute power - 780Ti wins, but 290X is simply better, IMO, as a whole package, with it's great price/power/futureproofing mix.

Not really, all custom 290X's are amazing really - for example my 290X Tri-X while gaming stays at 73-74c at MOST (usually 66-69) and you can't hear it... It's price was the same as reference one for me too.
Reference 290s are shit though, I'll give you that, but who buys those where you have an army of custom cooled ones for the same price?

I like both brands. Each brand has different things to offer. The way I look at it, I'll buy what ever card that will suit my needs. Same with CPU. I prefer AMD cpus, The price/performance ratio is strong, but I don't hate on intel. Liking a brand isn't fanboyism, but worshipping a brand and bashing the other is. And this is what goes on here. It's 50/50 I'd say, it depends on what game you play, depends on what editing software you use. The 780ti is slightly more powerful but you have to look at the price gap between the two, is that extra 100-150 worth the 10% increase? I'd say no

I say yes, because that is 20% price increase, for 10% perfomance. Because if you buying this card chances are that you want best and that you have money, and 780ti is one of the best high end cards.

The problem with AMD cards (for me anyways) is their Linux proprietary support is very bad. Their open source is VERY good, but they're far behind nvidia in driver quality

That is one thing that turns me away, I want to purchase a 290x for many reasons, its better as a whole package with its 4gb and 512bit ram, the custom cooled cards are AMAZING and the price/performance is there. Nvidia with a 780ti you get 3gb (which is still plenty for single screens) and 384 bit?. The thing is I'd like to play my games without crashing every ten minutes. Nvidia does this too sometimes. What is the better card then?

The 780 ti is better than the r90 290x, it's a well known fact, even though the difference is maybe as small as 8%, it's still better by 8%, the drivers support from amd have been known to be not very good, whereas the 780 Ti is more power efficient, and more powerful. The 780 Ti is a card you get if you have enough money to get it without compromising the rest of your build, the r9 290x, is for people who want 780 Ti grade performance, but on a lower budget, you forget that a 6gb 780 Ti is n the works

Don't be stupid please. 384 bits can be better then 512 and in this case is. Also if you play on 1080 monitor, and 90% of people use this resolution or less, then 780ti is more then 10% better.

i wasn't being an idiot, i was doing what the NON fanboy does. Explains the advantages of both brands. AMD has a better complete package for a lower price but has poor drivers. Nvidia seems to downgrade their cards with low amounts of Vram but have better power consumption and better drivers. I happen to be stuck with going with an NVIDIA card because my case cannot support a card that is longer than 12 inches and i want to be easy on power. Which is fine by me, i know im still getting a powerful card that is going to get the job done.

I second this motion.
Also, not sure what is the thread about 780Ti is more powerful (and I have 290X, so definitely not Nvidia fanboy), it should be kind of obvious by now.
I, for example, got my 290X Tri-X because it was significantly cheaper that 780Ti and honestly I even regret I did not stay with my original choice of 290 Tri-X - because it's almost half as cheap as 780Ti and is almost as good as 290X anyway (like couple % of difference in performance -_-).
The only thing I believe is wrong with 780Ti is it having 3GB VRAM, I find it unacceptable for the price it commands.

I agree completely. Its either 3gb and have to replace in 3 years or 6gb and spend a pile of money for wasted vram. (6gb is only for the 780 too) I wanted to by the trix so bad but my case won't fit it

I like Nvidia because their cards are MUCH cooler, use less power, and make less noise. They do cost a little bit more, but people often look only on perfomance. For example 780ti is like 10% better then 290x and it cost 20-25% more. So they think it is not worth it. But it will run cooler you will be able to overclock it more, and you have better drivers, shadowplay etc.

This is a very flawed comparison not taking into account the fact that cards like 290X Tri-X take care of all heat and noise issues and at this point they cost nearly the same as reference cards.
Take my example - my 290X Tri-X cost me $150 less than the closest 780Ti option (Windforce) and heat/noise/power consumption for these cards is identical really:

So in this case I would pay $150 for a small performance bump and that's it... not a great deal.
