I have a 250GB SSD [C:\] and a 3TB HDD partitioned as D:\ and E:\ . I only have Windows 8.1 on the SSD just now, but before installing programs onto C:\ I would be grateful if someone will kindly teach me what I must alter in the OS to ensure all programs' data and My Documents, My Pictures, etc., are stored on Drive D:\ and not on Drive C:\.
Thank You.
Helen

You have to select the drive while installing each program. Typically, a program creates a sub-directory in the c:\program files or c:\program files (x86) directories. When it asks you where you want to install it to, simply change the first letter from c to d. It will then create a c:\program files directory and a sub-directory in it with the name of the program you are installing.

Hi and thanks for your answer. However, it does not tell me how to ensure My Documents, My Pictures etc., are stored on D:\ - There is no choice of where these are stored when installing the OS.

For my documents and my pictures, simply right click on them in the left pane of the my computer window and select properties. Then, select include a folder. Select a folder in your d: drive. It will now appear in the folder list. Select it and click set save location. To make the d: folder the only one, remove the other ones.

Thank you SO much. There are times when I cannot see the woods for the trees as I'm still getting used to the way 8 has re-named things: There is no "Include a Folder in 8s Properties" It is now under "Location". Well I hope it is!!!!!! I'm going to try it now. Thanks once again.
