Asus Z87-Deluxe or Maximus VI Hero?

Well it is like this they do not compare since the rampage extreme is different socket for LGA2011 CPU's. I personally have never had the need to spend more than $200 on a board, the HERO has everything you would need to run a max OC and dual GPU solutions.

As Rolli said - two completely different animals - the Rampage is 2011, can take the 6 core Intel CPUs, true Quad channel memory and has more PCI-E lanes to play with - for the Z87 the Hero is far and away my first choice ;)

If I go with the Hero then I'll need a wireless network adapter. Suggestions?

With that type budget I would have 120-128GB SSD at min for OS and programs, example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211602&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
I see no parts needing changing all quality although some people would want to change one or the other based on personal preference.

I thought about a Samsung SSD but I took it out so that I wouldn't have to deal with a dead SSD down the road, also it reduced the price.
The real cost is about $1,720 (subtracting accessories, monitor, and mouse). I won't be able to afford all of the extras at the same time or a desk so I'm going to temporarily put it next to my old PC with the router and pray that it doesn't become a family computer. As soon as I can afterwards I plan on getting the network adapter, desk, and peripherals so that I can move it.

Understood, SSD is nice but far from necessary.
