Okay, I am about to get my Prepaid Samsung Galaxy Centura rooted (I know, its not the best phone you will ever have). I heard that if you root your phone and you use the tethering app, you would get unlimited internet on your computer, I want to know if this is true or not. If it is true, I want to know if it is good for online gaming. By this, I mean will the latency be good? Because the online games I play is Multi Theft Auto and San Andreas Multiplayer.

at least you have a choice. up until a year ago we were stuck with dial-up only. we were too far for dsl, cable stopped before it reached our house, satelite was too expensive and slow and we have zero cell signal at the house. then fios moved in finally and now most of the people on our road are using them.

according to a 3rd party website fios is available in your town
http://www.fiosfinder.com/availability/richburg-south-carolina.php

perhaps go to the official site and type your address in and see if it is available. if it is not then try talking to them to see if they will extend to your area.

not everyone has good isp services available to them. that is how it was like here for years except we werent so lucky to have any high...
you will not get unlimited internet by rooting unless you have an unlimited internet plan with your phone provider.

-for instance if you pay per mb you download on the phone you will pay per mb you use with the pc.
-for instance if you have a 2gb plan per month and $ for overages you will have the same amount shared between the your phone and the pc.
-for instance you are grandfathered in to an unlimited internet plan. you then DO have unlimited internet on your phone and pc if it is tethered however you need to watch out because if you use too much some companies will throttle back your speed if your data usage is too high. which isnt right but cellular companies are greedy.

you dont need a new phone. i'm still using a droid incredible 1 single core rooted with miui 2.3 and it works great. since i have unlimited (i'm grandfathered in for that!) i can tether to my laptop without much trouble by making my device a wifi hotspot. i do not use a tethering app since miui includes the ability and it works better than the apps.

as far as speed in game is concerned... that would depend on your phones connection speed. if you are running at 3g and have 3 bars you can likely play some games. i've played some mmorpg games on wifi like that but the trouble is that the phone signal fluctuates way too much and sometimes drops out. latency is also rather horrible.

-------------

you would be better off just paying for internet at your house.

Okay, like a turnpoint question that doesn't match this catagory at all, but I live in a very rural area which is Richburg,
SC in a street that some internet services don't recognize. Would there be, by any chance of telling me an internet service that REACHES my area? Because the only ones I found was Exede (I am going with them now, but they suck when it comes to online gaming) and TruVista (I used to have them, but I backed out on the contract because they scammed me out of my internet).

not everyone has good isp services available to them. that is how it was like here for years except we werent so lucky to have any high speed services like you do. try doing anything connected at 28.8kbps or 33.3kbps (2-3kbps actual download speed) and remaning sane.

all i can say is to check out fios or to scour the web to see if anyone else offers service in your area.

just about any location can get satelite internet however its not going to be any better (rather slow and it cuts out with weather) and its terribly expensive. it might actually be worse than what you have now.
