Someones selling T400 think pad. (Which is a 14.1") They bought it last year. its 2.5 '' hard drive 160 gig. They took it to the store for repair. I was wondering if the 2.5" I have from Acers laptop I bought new a couple yrs. ago. As parts. will it fit in the think pad T400 IBM 2.5" and will it work . laptop I have is acer aspire 7551G-5755. With a 2.5" 500 GB HDD its a 17.3" HD+LED LCD. Now the think pad the one I don't have its in the middle of no where. so Ill have to take what i need as its a different cover its double sided for think pad.(Top and bottom come apart). Acer is one screw to remove hard drive case or cover then four screws in HD holding it in case. holder/bracket. I'm unable to find specs dimensions on think pad. the snug fit of top and bottom of internal HD scares me. if tech was wrong then what or if this doesn't work on the side of rd. i
Ill have look and decide Ive not seen the other laptop found pictures but not a real help. thank you any help. or best guess . If not will it work with internal HD not working and use as external through usb with windows on it already from acer . tech said and cust that owns it when starting it says"" disk read error.""

Two reasons your idea won't work:

1) Running Windows from an external hard drive will be like trying to stir cement with a teaspoon - and just as slow.

2) Windows won't boot on totally different hardware. You have to actually install it on the PC or laptop you want it to run on, so that Windows Setup can check all the hardware and create a unique Product ID String which is subsequently used for Product Activation.
