Good day to all

I have this older type SSD, bought from a classified about two years ago and I intend to use it as a system disc in a newly built PC (building still in progress).

I have been trying to find out its official specs from Samsung web site, especially about TRIM support, but in vain, probably because this model has been discontinued.

I have found several discussions in the Net from people having this disc, talking about lack of TRIM support and asking to update the system firmware. Mine's firmware is: VBM24D1Q.

I am not sure if this disc supports TRIM in Windows 8 Pro (the OS I intend to install). I am not also sure whether there is a firmware update that can ensure TRIM support in case this is not supported.

Can someone give some answers on this matter?

I need to know if this disc can be safely used as a system disc (providing that it supports TRIM), or if I have to abort from using it and find another SSD that can do the job correctly.

Thanks

SSDs use idle Garbage Collection in addition to TRIM to maintain drive performance.
So even if your SSD doesn't support TRIM then just reboot to your login screen, and let your system idle there to let GC do it's thing.
You can do this once every couple of weeks or so before you go to sleep or before you go to work.

In Windows Power Options make sure your drive is set to "Never power off" so that power is being supplied to the SSD while your system is idling.

Here's a link for Samsung's Customer Support. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact
You can Live Chat or email them. Give them your model number and see if they can tell you whether the drive supports TRIM or not.
