Hey everyone,

I just purchased the Kingston ssdNOW 128GB as a second ssd. I currently have a Corsair 60GB and a 2TB HDD. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 -- 4x PCI-E 2.0 x16. I am 99% sure that I hooked up the ssd correctly. But, for some reason the drive is not showing up on my computer. Help!!

I also followed went to computer management and attempted to format the drive, but it would not allow for a quick format (message: The operation did not complete because a quick format is not possible) and for a regular format it said that the media is "write-protected".

Thanks,

Tom

I'm not sure what you've tried so far, but does it show up in disk management? It could need to be formatted there first, or a drive letter assigned to it. In case you didn't know how to get to disk management, right-click "computer" from the start menu and select "manage". It will bring up "computer management". Disk management is in that menu on the left under Storage.

It is labeled on the Computer Management screen as:

Layout: Simple
Type: Basic
File System: UDF
Status: Healthy (Primary Partition)

Never mind...I am an idiot. I have no clue what is happening. I probably didn't set it up properly.

If it's UDF, you may be seeing an optical drive with a disc in.

In some cases and optical drive and normal drive(or even network drive) try to share the same letter.

Please check device management to ensure the SSD is in fact seen by the system. If it is, move the drive letter for your optical drive way down to z: or some other far away letter.

See if you can see the SSD yet, it should need a first time initialization.
