Alright so I need help with my Macbook Pro. Its the lowest spec Mid-2010 model, and I upgraded it to 8GB of RAM and a 250GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD to give it a boost. I upgraded to Mavericks a few days after it came out, and got a significantly better battery life, and it felt like my computer was running faster (I put in the SSD before I upgraded so its not the SSD that made it faster but the OS).

However, yesterday, I tried to boot it, but it gave me all kinds of errors. I get grey folders with a question mark in them, a grey globe, etc. I knew the folder with the question mark meant there was something wrong with the boot drive, or the computer unable to find it.

I've tried safe booting, PRAM resetting, rescue boot, but with no luck. When I ran repair disk and repair disk permissions in Disk Utility, I got all sorts of errors, saying that my partion map is messed up, it can't repair the disk, etc. I did a bit of googling, and found out that my SSD is corrupted. It said that Mavericks doesn't work well with Samsung 840 series SSD's, which I don't understand because it was working fine for the past few weeks.

I presume you can fix the corrupted drive by wiping it, but I would like to keep my data. In order to do this, I'll take the SSD out of the Macbook and connect it to my Hackintosh and see if I can do anything to help it. If I can read it, I will copy all the data onto my Hackintosh and wipe the drive and downgrade to Mountain Lion on the Macbook.

What can I do to recover the data on my Macbook? Do you have any suggestions on what I should try and do? (Sorry for the long post, I'm really desperate.)

Since you upgraded using 3rd party RAM try reinstalling the Apple RAM that came with your Macbook. Also make sure to disconnect any peripheral devices i.e. printers, USB, firewire cable. Restart and if you're still getting the grey screen you probably will have to do a clean wipe. To recover your data try this. http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoveryfo...
