Mixing WD HDD's in a RAID configuration

I built a rig a few years ago with 4 WD1002FBYS 1T drives in RAID 10. I don't have a spare and I would like to have one around. But the WD1002FBYS drives seem to have been replaced by the WD10EFRX 1T drives. I think they are nearly the same but 6.0Gb/s instead of 3. I know they can be jumpered to be 3.0Gb/s (and where they are connected on my board they can only be 3.0gb/s anyway) so the WD10EFRX drive should be fine (jumpered to 3.0) if I get one and need to swap out one of the WD1002FBYS drives, right?

TIA :)

Yes you will be fine.

When building a raid they always adjust to the Smallest Hard drive size and the slowest speed. And if you put a SATA III on a SATA II connector it will run as SATA III. If you put SATA II and SATA III on a SATA III controller they will run as the speed of the slowest drive pretty much.

Its usually best to have them all the same drive but it will work fine if they aren't. Its one thing if your running a personal home raid. Its another thing if your running an Enterprise server where having Enterprise, identical drives are best.

I thought I had bought a spare when I set this up. I usually do. But I can't find it. And I really don't want to replace all the drives right now. It's a home system that only I use but it's for my work so it's a little more critical than a typical home system. But it's not like it's a NAS at a business office being hit by a dozen or more users all day long. I'm not having any issues right now. I just want to be prepared if something comes up.
