I've been holding off on building my own PC for the past two years but my laptop is beginning to show its age so I need a replacement. I'm rusty on pretty much everything so I appreciate any advice on comparable cost part improvements or better synergy combinations for my build. My aim is to have ~$1K desktop that is versatile and can run games on 1920x1080/ultra. Thanks ahead of time for your input.

I would go for a H-series motherboard since CPU is not overclockable. Save some money. Other than that, it looks good.
