i was on the homepage and all of a sudden it just restarted on its own and came back up to the screen saying missing operating system. I tried putting in the backup cd. I put in the windows 7 disk and tried to repair, it tells me to remove any removable items such as cameras and music players(which none were installed) I then tried to reinstall windows 7 and when it gets to the point of restarting it goes back to the same message of missing operating system.

turn the pc off check that the hard drive power cables and data cables are connected. turn the pc on see if the hard drive is seen in the bios and feel if it moving. if it is use windows install cd to try and repair the mbr or the windows install. if it cant see if you can do a system restore. if the drive not found and or not moving..drive may have died. try the drive in another pc see if it spins up and you can see it. if you can see it see if you can pull the data off.

The same thing happened to me a minute ago. I was checking my mail and all by itself it rebooted with a black screen saying missing operating system on my pc windows 7. Is it a virus and if so why didn't Norton's antivirus pick up on it? Can someone please help!
