Hi
Currently I have an old pc,
i3 530
gtx 650.
Just wanna ask, if I upgrade my cpu to i5 3570 non K( not a fan of overclocking)
would I see a good FPS increase? I'm also aware I need to change mobo.

Solution

Yes you will get a FPS increase. 3rd gen CPU isn't bad, I can tell you that because I have a 3570k in my system right now, and my FPS are 60+. Get it then.

Yes, the first generation intels are getting outdated, let alone i3. I strongly suggest you should upgrade. BUT Intel is soon about to release their 5th generation CPU early 2014 ( the generation behind the 4 series haswell) So if you might as well just wait a few months to get a fast and updated CPU. On the note of the (k) I still recommend you to get a k version, as you may not be overclocking but its good to have that option there for future purposes ( incase your computer runs slow in future) and the price difference between a k and a non-k is not much anyway. So my final answer to you is that wait, as you most likely need to upgrade your motherboard either way.

If you think this answer was helpful. Please vote.

Cool :)) what's your GPU?

5th gen was delayed, he'd be waiting over 6 months. This info was from last month from idf.

Are you also aware that if you have an oem windows that you need a new windows key? And also a graphics card upgrade is usually what you need to upgrade for gaming. You may see 0 fps increase, depending on your gpu.

He dosent need a GPU upgrade. GTX 660 is good for his requirements. He is most likely just bottlenecking with the CPU.

Plus the 3570K is only selling for average $180 and my guess non-k is around $150

That's not worth it 6300FX... Rather just go for phenom 1100t if you going with AMD.

My judgement would still be on Intel as AMD is more designed for multimedia due to there multiple cores. While Intel is more power in its individual quad cores giving optimum performance in gamming

gtx 650 I'm afraid.
hmmmmm? so should I still get the i5? or new GPU?

AMD FX 6300 is way better than the older 1100t. So that is not even an option.

AMD FX 6300 + 7870 would give way better gaming performance than the i5 + 650.

Please don't start AMD v/s Intel debate. There is no single winner there. It depends on the price range.

For low budget builds, AMD is better because the less price of CPU's allow to get better GPU which matters more for gaming.

But if you have somewhat higher budget then the i5 is a better option.

But the thing which matters the most for gaming is the GPU. Hence the FX 6300 with a 7870 would perform way better than the i5 with Nvidia 650. I can assure you that.

Its one or the other in his case.
Think ahead, YES AMD is cheaper for value. BUT Intel is more efficient and stable than AMD. ( I myself can say this from experience as my previous system was a AMD, which was very cheap but kept overheating)
So its your choice @pspsycloud do you want something that's cheap and get what you want but dosent ensure performance. OR a product more expensive but ensure stability and performance?

Good to see that you agree on my point of the CPU bottlenecking. Reluctant that you get what iam saying.:D

FX 6300 is stable. Seriously I have never heard any complains regarding it's stability ever.

Also overheating problem with the AMD is something of the past. They both run equally hot now.

Intel haswell also runs very hot, so they are now about the same. Believe me, there is nothing wrong with the AMD.
