So my mom has an external hard drive, and the mini usb port on the external hard drive broke. She took the enclosure off, and gave it to me to try to solder the usb port back on. I took off the little electronics board that had the usb port on it, and noticed that the circuit board with the usb port and the power adapter just plugged into normal SATA connectors. I tried plugging these into a desktop motherboard, and the computer can't see the files. Disk Management sees the drive, but it wants me to "Initialize" the drive.

How can I get the files off of this drive just using the SATA connectors?

It is a WD 10-EARS
