please help.will ssd drive works with ACPI and APIC function instead of AHCI

hi everyone

please i need your help.

i have old desktop with old BIOS.

the specification of my old desktop:

-packard bell (ipower) 8088
-windows7 64bit
-up to date windows update
-4GB memory(i can upgrade the memory to maximum 8GB),this how much the motherboard allow me.
-sapphire vapor-x 5770 HD 1GB,graphic card

i would like to upgrade my desktop and buy samsung ssd 256GB pro,BUT my BIOS have only ACPI,and APIC,instead of AHCI which works perfectly with ssd drive

will the samsung ssd drive works with these function in the bios(ACPI,APIC),and will the speed of the ssd drive will be as fast as AHCI

OR
can i upgrade the memory to 8GB,if it will be any problem with ACPI,and APIC

please i don't want to see the (blue screen error)

Hi

I am fairly sure ACPI,and APIC have no connection to hard drive controller settings

such as SATA = ATA compatible or Native Mode = AHCI

Different BIOS manufacturers give different names for this setting

Some motherboards have ATA & SATA connectors you need spec for SATA

If your PC came with Windows 7 (64bit) it probably supports SATA AHCI mode or did you upgrade your self ?

What do you mean by old ?
What year and motherboard chipset or model

What is important is if your SATA controller is version I , II or III
If I or II you can save some money by not going for fastest SSD available

Are you going for a re install from scratch of Windows onto SSD or copying from Hard Drive to SSD ?

thank you so much for your reply so quickly,i appreciated so much.

i spoke to computer shop owner about if i can upgrade to ssd drive,i told him that i don't have AHCI funtion.

he had a look for the BIOS and told me that i have ACPI,and APIC,and i can upgrade to ssd drive(with no problem).

i will go to BIOS and update the SATA to the highest settings(I,II,or III)

no my pc doesn't come with windows7(64 bit),i bought windows7(64bit) and reinstall windows (from scratch) by myself.

my pc is about 5 years old,sorry i don't know my motherboard chipset or model,i know only it is (packard bell,ipower,model 8088)

-If i have SATAIII in the BIOS,can i activate SATA III,and be able to install SSD drive without any problem?

yes i am going to buy samsung ssd 256pro,and re-install windows7 from scratch

Hi

You can not select SATA I, II or III in BIOS
This depends on the motherboard chipset.
recent Intel chipsets have 2 SATA III ports and the rest SATA II

( I, II & III relate to version and speed data can be transferred from disk to controller III being fastest)

You need to find BIOS setting for SATA controller and tell us what they are
hopefully one will be AHCI (could be called Native)
