Pci-e slot 3 not recognising GPU

Hi , i have an sli set-up on my Asus pro Z87 mb, the top 2 slots work fine , but the 3rd slot does not recognise my gpu. I wanted to move the bottom card down a slot to get some air between the cards. I took the bottom card out and placed it in the 3rd slot , I then re-installed the gpu but in the nvidia control panel it does not show up as configured. Any help would be great thanks.

That slot only runs at 4x. Nvidia has deemed that a 4x slot isn't fast enough for SLI, so you can't use that slot, and even if you could, it's too slow anyways at 4x. stick with the other 2 and get creative with case fans and two sides tape and zip ties and get some flow in between them.
