Hi all,
I thought about overclocking my processor but have learned it's not a good idea, i7 2600 (non K) running at 3.4.
I have the Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H67MA-USB3-B3 (Socket 1155) motherboard with 16 GB of RAM and what I really am looking for is to get the best graphics card I can for under $500.00 with this system.
I thought about buying a new processor, the 2600K, but don't want to start from scratch with all of my programs and such...

Ideas?

If your budget is under $500, then Amd r9 290 is the best gpu you can ever get. And it is really close performing to r9 290x. So r9 290 is the way to go. Happy Gaming!

Go with 3570K CPU best for gaming. And you have to start from scratch with you programs if you buy a "K" version CPU, cause you want to overclock, and your current MB it not capable of OC, so you will need a "Z" version MB to be able to overclock, and there you go with all your stuffs.

And GTX 780 or 780TI will be a good choice in real life situation and not in synthetic benchmarking.

You would also need a decent PSU of at least 700 to 750W for OC.

Your processor is fine, I have the same one with a gtx 670 (currently a $260 card if you shop around) and love my bf4 performance, a 770 SC edition will be under your budget, which means you can save/get a 2nd card sooner... R290 is tempting also... what is your current card?

Not sold on overclocking, just want to get the best from what I have...my current situation is onboard graphics, which is why I am looking for a good card that is compatible with my current hardware.

r290 (non x) for $400 or gtx 770 superclocked/r280x toxic for $350... 780/ti r290x aren't worth the extra cost, benchmarks are only a little higher for a huge cost difference.

even the super clocked gtx 770 will also not be performing equal to r9 290. Power of the gpu doesn't totally depend on their clock speeds (although it does help). But still get the r9 290 when it comes with after market coolers. It's not really worth spending a lot more and only get a bit of prformance boost.

770sc/r280x toxic are about $50 less and run way cooler than r290, I have a feeling a custom cooled r290 will be closer to the $450+ mark making it a $100 difference. All cards would do great @ ultra bf4. I am on ultra excluding post processing on high and frame rate on my gtx670 (same processor as as OP) never going below 55fps v-sync on it's just super smooth with no dips (pleasantly surprised=)

Well, r9 280x Toxic is also a nice option considering it's price. So it shouldn't have any problem. And an aftermarket cooler r9 290 will not be $100 more expensive. They do want to sell their gpus don't they..??

Oh I meant $100 difference from a custom r290 for ~ $450 vs ~ $350 770sc/280xtoxic ~ 30% more cost with less than 30% increase to performance.

So it sounds like no matter which way I go I will need to add an aftermarket cooler of sorts...then I need to figure out if I want to go with just fans or do a liquid cooled setup.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll start looking at these and let you know what I go with and how it works out.

If you are not planning on OC right now and what to keep your current setup. then go with GTX 780 or GTX 780Ti.

The card is compatible with your system. But you need a decent PSU, so what is the make/model of your PSU ?

My PSU is an ISO-450. I believe it's only 350W, so changing that out might be necessary also...

Yes, if you are going to upgrade your gpu, you really need to upgrade your psu too. Try for an 750Watt psu if you are going with gtx 780ti.

If you plan on:

Measured power consumption single GeForce GTX 780 Ti
1.System in IDLE = 120W
2.System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 374W
3.Difference (GPU load) = 254W
4.Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
5.Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 264 Watts

GeForce GTX 780 Ti - On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit

GeForce GTX 780ti - 42 Ampere and a 600W PSU minimum

The power requirements will be the same for GTX 780

So here is good PSU for your need and some wattage to spare.
