Hello. I have decent knowledge with hardware and computers, but when it comes to motherboard I can only understand as much as max ram speed and what socket it is.

I am planning to buy a AMD FX-8350 which I have heard great things about, and it should definately be an affordable upgrade from AMD Phenom II x6. My current mobo is an ASUS M4A77T. The thing I am wondering is if I have to upgrade my current mobo with the new processor. I am aware that it does not support 8 cores, but I would not imagine it would severly weaken the processor. Will my old mobo be a bottleneck with my new processor?

Thanks,
Zirke.

The motherboard does not support any of the FX processors, so you would need a new motherboard.

Oh ok, thank you. I read it supported AM3 chip, and therefore thought it supported the FX series. Thanks for the quick response :)

EDIT: Any mobo you would recommend? On a pretty tight budged, student etc. etc.

I would recommend a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3. Or if you're really on a tight budget, an Asrock 970 Extreme3. The latter is not so well suited for overclocking, but it should be alright at stock.

Thanks alot. Just ordered the CPU aswell as the Gigabyte mobo. The price difference between Gigabyte and Asrock was around 10$, so it didn't really matter :)
