Im getting a new monitor but can't decide which. Im considering getting an ASUS VG248QE TN panel or Asus MX79H AH-IPS or a cheap Asus VS239HR IPS panel. Now im thinking about getting a 27'' 1440p Korean monitor. Im about to order one but what caught my eye was the 1000:1 contrast ratio, whats up with that? Asus has 80000000:1, can anyone explain please? What would be the best choice, i mostly play FPS or racing.

All monitors have somewhere between 600:1 and 1200:1 contrast ratio. Anything that isn't within that range is advertising and a meaningless figure.

I don't own any of the montiors you suggest, but an IPS panel is going to be better than a TN. (The catleaps use IPS panels, if you weren't aware). You may not notice the difference every day, but compare them side by side and it's fairly obvious.

I would suggest the catleap (or other brand) 2560x1440 monitor, simply because it's value for money is so much higher than the alternatives. On top of that, you can buy them from some retail stores now (Micro Center at least), which eliminates most of the risk. We've had 1920x1080 for years now, if you're buying a new monitor it seems a bit silly to spend nearly as much for the same resolution you could get five years ago.

The deciding factor should probably be whether your system can actually handle 2560x1440 content, though. It's substantially more demanding than 1920x1080. Higher resolution certainly helps in FPS games, though it makes little difference in racing games.
