I had taken my ram out for dusting when i took a nap and when i woke up she was trying to run on my pc, said that my monitor wouldnt turn on as she tried turning it on for aparantly for an hour and when i came up and put the ram in and tried turning it on it wouldnt connect to my monitor and now i have no idea whats wrong, is my cpu fried?

Solution
Without the memory in, it really is not possible to successfully POST (turn on) an ATX computer, it will just attempt to start and then issue a beep code for a memory failure. And doing so should not cause any permanent damage.

I would try a single stick of memory at a time in different slots to determine if you have a memory stick that is a problem.

What is making a noise, the case fan, PSU fan, CPU fan?

I doubt that there is any damage, but you may need to clear the bios. Also, remove and reseat your memory sticks.

And in the future do not remove them for dusting -- just use canned compressed air or wipe them gently with a clean 1-2" paint brush.

How can i reset the bios when the monitor won't respond? I've tried unplugging and replugging the ram as well as the monitor.

By unplugging the computer and removing the bios battery, or moving the clear CMOS jumper to the clear position for a moment and then back to the original position.

Also, insure all of your connections and cables are secure in addition to reseating the memory.

I've done all and it still won't connect, would it matter that she told me she had left the computer on for 30+ minutes? At this point I think she might've done more then just left it on without the ram, after about a minute of being on the entire case will slightly shake and create a whirring noise.

I believe it to be the CPU fan, it's also abnormally hot for some reason after i turn it on. Everything else seems to be working fine. As for the memory stick slots, I don't think the ram itself or the slots are the issue cause i tried the ram on my other pc and it worked fine.
