I don't know which processor i want to get for a good gaming computer and don't know if they are similar in performance or one is better then the other.

I am going to get either 2x intel xeon E5-2620's or a single intel core i7 4770k?

Help would be very appreciated and a reason why to choose one over the other would be better thanks and please could you tell me any cheaper alternatives as well because the dual xeons are pretty expensive :)

Although the Xeon has 12 cores (due to hyperthreading) so you would have 24 cores inn your games, the clock speed is far lower than the i7. The l3 cache is 7mb more on the xeon, but modern games don't really use cache, it's really only programs, such as 3d Rendering and video encoding. Most games nowadays (for intel anyway) only utilise a maximum of four cores, therefore you would be better off getting an i5, because an i7 is overkill. In my opinion, you should get the i5 3570k, because it is far less expensive than the xeon's and the i7, and the performance is marginally different, gaming wise. Although the i7 can achieve higher clock speeds (100MHz), you really can't beat the i5 on price and performance. If you are willing to spend a bit more, there is the i5 4670K, but there is really no difference between the two, apart from integrated graphics. Also, the turbo clock speed on the haswell (4670K) is only 50MHz faster, so in my opinion, you should definitely get the i5 3570k.
