I have a Windows 7 x64 system I want to set up to dual boot with Windows XP Pro X86 to support some legacy video capture hardware. However, I have several hard drives that are installed under Windows 7 x64 that are 3Tb in size. Since XP has a 2Tb limit, what will be the effect on those drives if I set up the box to dual boot?

Should I re-partition the larger drives so they will properly operate when I have booted into XP instead of 7? Or should I set up the system so that it does not see the larger drives when booted in XP? How can I do this?

Thanks!

Dave

Yes I didn't mention GPT but it was a consideration. Check how to use GPT partition tables with Windows XP so it detects the full 3TBs. It may not be free of charge though.

The drives in question on my system are already GPT as they are currently running under Win 7 x64 with single partitions.

So, it sounds like I just need to load the special driver on the XP OS of the dual boot and that will work fine on those drives. I assume it would be a good thing to unplug the 3TB drives until I get XP loaded with the new driver?

Thanks!
