Hello there,

my name is Tom, and I'm a very very VERY big computer noob. I have basically a tiny bit more knowledge on things as opposed to the everyday person, but don't understand any technical and 'advanced' computer talk.

Anyways, I've got a couple of questions that I'd love if anyone could answer as I need advice on what I should and can buy.

I am interested in purchasing either this card here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121671

Or this one here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130951

Now I know that the GTX 780 is a far better card, and is capable of running almost anything at ultra settings, but there are a couple of things that come into play for me. My setup is rather mediocre, and I'm not sure if I'm able to run either of the cards based on my PSU, Mother Board, Processor, etc. These are my specs below:

CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i5-2500K 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA1155
HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
RAM: 8GB (2GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (Kingston HyperX)
MOTHERBOARD: * [CrossFireX] Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 ATX Mainboard
LucidLogix Virtu and Intel Smart Response Technology & 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN,
USB3.0, 2x SATA-III RAID,2 3 PCIe Gen2, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 3CI (All Venom OC
Certified)
POWERSUPPLY: 700 Watts - Standard Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready

So a couple of questions. Are either of these cards compatible with my mother board, and if so, can either of them run on my computer without me having any issues? I'm not sure if my PSU is enough, so i'd love some help from you guys!

Last question: I know the GTX 780 is fantastic, but would the 7970 be able to run next gen games such as BF4, Crysis 3, and etc on Ultra without any problems? Because I have enough money for the 780, but I'd rather not spend $200 more on that, if the 7970 will do me good without any issues. Thanks again, any help would be MUCH appreciated! :)

- Tom.

Solution
Man your system is great for those GPUS .

they need 600watt : you have 700watt

they need 8gb ram : you have 8GB ram installed

they need a strong CPU + Mainboard to avoid bottleneck : you already have them

my GTX 760 runs BF4 & anyohter game as smooth as butter maxedout or at veryhigh settings .

7970 will rock & will do gr8 for long run ;) . but GTX 780 can make you little bit more future proof . you dont need it . because 7970 will suit your needs Greatly :)

here is the benchmark :

Your CPu is very capable and your Motherboard definitely supports even more than 1 card. i dont think that your CPu will bottleneck any GPu on the market and if it did you could overclock so it could catch up. it is very capable. as for performance the 780 is the superior card but the 7970 can still max out most current games (except crysis 3) the only issue is your PSU. what brand is it? you can get 700 Watt PSu's that are unbranded and have a risk of doing bad things if you draw too much power from them.

Wait, I went to the benchmark link and tested the comparison and got the results being that the 7970 are much much better then the GTX 780? I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong here.

There is a 7970 GHz edition (which is slightly not as good as the 780), and then there is a 7970 GHz edition CF (which is quite a bit better then the 780). Which is the one that I might be buying? In the NewEgg title for the card it says CrossFire so thats why I might think that that's what the CF means?

Here is the benchmark starts for the CF: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/769?vs=827

Here is the link to the card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121671

Are they the same? Or is the card on newegg the non CF version. Thanks

your welcome bro ;)

CF means Crossfire , it means two 7970 running at the same time on one board which is not what your looking for . you are looking for a single fast vga card .

GTX 780 is faster than 7970 . but if you crossfire 7970 then it will be faster than single GTX 780 for sure :)

Last question xD

Are these two cards the exact same? This new egg link is to the GTX 780, and the other is to the same one (i think).

I was just going to buy it off newegg, but it had some paypal problems, so i was wondering if u could tell me if this one on tigerdirect is the same exact one as the newegg one? I'm doubtful just because on the newegg card, it has FTW in the title and on the card, while on the tigerdirect card it does not.

Does this mean the tigerdirect card is not as good or something? Please help :(

Thanks!

Im so sry for late response bro . yes man they are the same . by the way
brands dont differ in Performance . they differ in quality & warranty ;)

stick with Asus , giga , msi , evga , they all are gr8 . you wont notice performance difference
