I have two HIS 7870 Ghz edition cards in crossfire and I noticed one card keeps shutting down randomly. Tried updating to the latest catalyst driver and even rolling back but it still keeps happening?

What do you mean by randomly? If it happens when you load a game or something, it's probably due to the fact that game doesn't support CrossfireX and one of the GPUs just kind of sit. If not, and one card just randomly stops working and stays that way, it might be a power issue.

it also can be ZeroCore when in crossfire and not in a GPU heavy app Catalyst will shut down the non primary card.

I think you're right, I left it at the desktop with no apps running for a while and the non-primary card didn't kick in until I loaded a browser. Good info, thanks man.
