I just got a ASUS R9 280x 3 GB. Im running it with an 750w fractal design psu, FX 8350 4 ghz and 8 Gb of ram. However im getting very low gpu usage, the usage is around 20%/ 60% in Far cry 3 and Battlefield 4 which gives me very bad fps. Im running it with the latest catalyst drivers 13.11 beta.

More about : low gpu usage

Have you tried using WHQL drivers instead of beta?

I cant seem to find any WHQL drivers for it. I cant look at previous drivers on the AMD website. If you could link me the link to a WHQL drivers i would greatly appreciate it. But I just downloaded Heaven Benchmark thingy and the usage is about 95 there. And the CPU is around 40-60 when playing games so I dont think its a bottleneck.

Can you use HW monitor to check your temperatures and post them here please?

The temperature is around 55-60 c when playing FC 3 all maxed. its getting around 60 c when hitting 100% gnu usage in Heaven/Valley benchmark. My cpu is around 41 c.

Temperature is not the problem, it could be the PSU (although I don't see why). See if you can borrow a PSU from a friend just to test it and be sure if that's the issue.

I don't know. I can get 100% gpu load in Heaven and Valley benchmark. Although its kinda weird in FC3, When I look at the ocean I get 100% gpu load but when I look at the jungle I get around 30%-60%. In DEUS ex human revolution the gpu load is around 20. Could I be the drivers? Or should I just reinstall the graphics card?

Could it be wrong at the graphics card then?

Yeah I just did a clean uninstall of the graphics card. I installed it again and didn't notice any difference at all. Even though the GPU Use was a bit higher in FC3. BUT I don't understand my GPU use is at 95% to 100% when Im staring at the ocean but when I'm looking at the jungle it drops to 40%-60%

This might be a stupid question but could it be because I'm using Win8 DX11.1 and the graphics card is DX11.2?

Maybe mantle will fix this problem with BF4, but it shouldn't be occurring now.

Hope so. Anyways thanks for the help. I updated my bios and all that shit and it actually runs pretty decent now in some games. In BF4 its kinda weird. I had better FPS on my GTX 650 then I have now. But in FC3 theres an improvement. Its just weird that the GPU load is at 100% when you're looking at areas that aren't that detailed but when you look at a street or forest/djungle the GPU load dips.

Usually BIOS update is not recommended but I guess you did right in your case. However, I am not sure why that happens in FC3. It's like you have some power saving options activated to protect the GPU from too much load in rendering (environment). Maybe you should check BIOS if there is some power saving mode that's causing this, or other GPU software.

Yeah I'll look into it. Ive seen that my GPU clocks down it self to 300 mhz or something when not playing. When I play it goes up to 1070. It maybe has something to do with that. And when Im playing Deus Ex Human Revolution the gpu load is at 20%-30% :<. And its all maxed and Im getting around 80 fps. I think it might be the games it self. Its a pretty new GPU but still. But from what I've seen it doesn't look like a bottleneck. I even oced by FX 8350 to 4.2 ghz.
